Mr. John Balhman - Band

6th grade music at St.Joseph is an all year intrumental program. In September we study instruments of the orchestra and try out different band instruments. Students  then make their choice of 6 different band instruments to play during the school year. The first trimester is spent forming the embouchure and learning good practice routines. We perform at the St.Joseph Christmas program in December. The second trimester we start marching band. The 6th graders learn marching skills along with training drum majors and drum lines.  Students then perform in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade for City of Seattle in March. The third trimester we focus on concert band which includes weekly sectionals, a student rhythm section with expanded percussion and Latin percussion. The band performs at the "Evening of  Entertainment" at St. Joseph school annually.

Mrs. Molly Crocker - Art

St. Joseph's art program: Students demonstrate an understanding of the elements and principles of design using a variety of media. Through exploration of a variety of art forms, students balance creativity with skill development, which leads to confidence, craftsmanship and successful experiences in multiple art forms.

Mr. Jamie Read - Technology

6th Grade Technology Overview
In the 6th grade technology curriculum, we focus on applying the technology skills students have acquired to the projects they are working on in their classrooms.  Some lab time will be dedicated to researching web resources on the topics they are learning about, and learning how to organize, bookmark, retrieve and reference these resources.
This is a brief overview of our technology curriculum, which will change based not only on the needs of students and classroom teachers, but also on the rapid advances in technology and communication.  ICommunication of understanding is one of echnology’s major educational functions, and we hope to impress on our students not only the power it holds for them, but the need for them to be responsible stewards of that power in order to be contributing members of our community.

All students in grades 1 -6 at St. Joseph School learn Spanish in their own classroom. The focus is on culture and enjoyment. Their growing vocabulary is learned through interactive games and skits. Students show a great love for language learning and joy in the process.
